    quoteyes, Leonard posted a 1957)

That was from the [u]1958</u> Studebaker Accessories catalog!

They said it has chrome headlight rims, but it does't show them and I guess they didn't think that people would notice that it is a 57.

I guess Studebaker's management would never have thought that we would be discussing a Scotsman 50 years after it was produced!

If you look at that gorgeous gray one that Craig put up photos of, you'll note the hub caps are the same color as the car. I believe all Scotsmans got matching color hub caps as standard. I have 3 or 4 different colored ones that I've picked up thru the years.
I don't think red was a standard color, but it would've been pretty easy, I would guess, to have one done in that hue if you wanted it.

The seller must have several *ultra* low mileage cars for sale, and maybe he has confused them. Perhaps the 10,900 miles listed for this car belong to another car - because I can read 12,555.8 miles on the odometer picture.

As long as we have new people entering the old car hobby we will have people buying and selling cars and drawing a blind eye to the fact the odometer only has five whole number digits.

This seller is not trying to sell it based on low miles, he is just reporting what he saw on the odometer. Which of course is just telling the truth, but not the whole truth.

That accessorycat photo is a 1958! Look at the grill - it is the '58 stamped variety . and there is no front fender vent door, and a '58 should not.

Roger, it's a '57, probably lightly airbrushed ... it has the rounder roofline found on the '57s. They went to the flatter (and, IMHO, better-looking) roofline in '58. I also spy a different-colored area at the front of the hood where the '57s had the little slug to fill the hood ornament hole.

The biggest give-away that this brochure car is an airbrushed 1957 model are the tail light pods; definitely 1957 and not 1958 (if it is supposed to be a '58).

Also, the car in the auction seems to have some of the kit, but not all of it. Note the auction car not having back-up lights or door armrests, as noted in the accessories above, per Leonard's collection. (That is a rare piece of literatrure, Leonard; thanks for sharing it.) BP

Further up on this thread, Allan was wondering if Studebaker would have considered putting a Golden Hawk engine in the Scotsman. Wow, that would have preceded the whole muscle car era. I'm not a hotrodder, but it's an interesting thing to ponder. What if........

The roof, grille and 'chrome turd' hood ornament were the first things I noticed.
Say~ about those backup lights- what would they have looked like on a '58 Scotsman, anyway? I've never ever seen a car with them!!! Did they have a different housing installed back there, or what? Think about it...

Good question, Dave! One that I've actually pondered while gazing upon the rear of a 58 Scotsman in a wrecking yard years ago.

I just now looked these up in the book. There are indeed, BU lites for the 58 Scots and their part #s are different from anything else. I went to SASCO's website to see if such numbers showed up and while there's no lenses or complete units available, there are the bodies by themselves - about 20 bucks each.

Wonder if they were simple round things that mounted to the deck lid or such? Leonard? Does your brochure shed any BU light on this issue?[)]

They only show BU lights on the Scotsman wagon, and they are just simple round things mounted on the pan behind the tailgate. In picture 3,it states for all Scotsman models.

I would assume that Studebaker wouldn't have spent the money to put BU lights above the tail light (although I think they would have been attractive). They probably just mounted these somewhere by the deck lid, but that is just an assumption.

Those wouldn't get in the way of anything back there, now would they? Funny thing is- that's about what I figured they'd do- no money to spend for parts already in the bin!!!

The colors go red at 60MPH.
