That's an interesting question. Did the '61 Larks ever have single headlamps?

Yep, the Deluxe models, 2 door & 4 door sedans and 2 & 4 door wagons had them as standard. (Dual was optional). Regals and Cruisers had the duals as standard. I owned a Green Jade '61 4 door with single headlights. Personally, I have seen just as many singles as I have dual when it comes to '61 Lark sightings.

    Craig.

I, for one, have NEVER seen one. All the '61s I've ever seen had the dual lamps. However, I still can be educated.

No apology needed. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Besides, if everyone in the world liked the same thing, we'd all be driving Studebakers.

For 1961, all Hawks and DeLuxe Larks came standard with single headlights. Dual headlights were optional on DeLuxe Larks and standard on Regal Larks, including Cruiser. As an example, all 1961 convertibles should have dual headlights because they were all Regal models. In fact, if you look up the front panel for '61 convertibles, you will only see a dual headlight version. I know that 1961 convertibles now exist with single headlights, but they were made/modified post-Studebaker build. I have owned four, or more, 1961 Larks including both headlight versions.

Speaking of 61 Larks with single head lights, there was an article in the August 2006 issue of Hemmings Classic Car magazine that stated that the 61 Lark Deluxe 2 door sedan was unexpectedly popular with more than 12,500 produced.

First I have NEVER seen a 61 Lark Deluxe 2 door sedan at any Studebaker Meet I have attended, and secondly, 12,500 seems to be an unrealistically high production figure for ANY single model Studebaker.

For about nine years, I owned a 1961 Lark DeLuxe two door sedan. It was a low mileage, original car. It was Jade Green with a 259 V8 and standard transmission. I drove that car to MANY meets, both Studebaker and all makes, in several states. While I had it, I went to an auction of vehicles at a farm. They had a twin to my car - same model, color and equipment. I didn't know of the car before that and this was in a town of about 8K people. I believe that my car had about 56K miles on it when I sold it to a guy in Connecticut.

For 1961 Studebakers, the DeLuxe two door sedan was second only to all four door sedans in production quantity. I show a production total of 14,574 DeLuxe two door sedans for 1961. 1961 was a low production year for Studebaker with only 71K cars, vs. 132K for 1960 and 102K for 1962.

I guess I stand corrected. Thanks for the info. But still I have never seen one at a Studebaker Meet.

My Mother bought a 61 Lark new and I drove it all through college. Pictures below.
