  • Never Rained On 1940 Stude

At least that's the way the story goes.

Same car discussed in the thread "Experts".

If the story's correct, it will be worth big bucks (at least compared to other 1940 Studes...) at auction.

After reading an auction recap in the latest Hemmings (where they said a low miles, all-original 1969 Lincolm Mark III went for $30,000) it seems as if even fairly ordinary (non-sports, full classic or super rare) cars are bringing a premium if they're [u]that nice and that original.</u>

By putting it on Jay's site and showing it to Studebaker fans here on the original thread...the owner [u]might</u> be trying to generate some talk and excitment on the car if it ever hits the auction block.
I'd do it if it were my car.

Just know that the owner had nothing to do with this latest thread. I did not remember the earlier one.

              Funny story.....

A number of years ago, Carl Shontz and I were at the AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and came across a nice '60s mopar that was advertised as "never being rained on". With a straight face, Carl points out the wiper sratches (quite deep) in the windshield, and asks if he drove around when the sun was shining with the wipers on&lt;G&gt;.

That night, it rained......the next morning, with the car still wet from the rain, someone had scratched out the "never rained on" and put "only rained on once" &lt;G&gt;.

Any of these would also have to be shipped from the plant in covered containers and never have spent a day on the dealer's lot.

Boy, when I saw the photo of the dashboard, it brought back memories of my dad's '39 Commander when I was a kid.
I wouldn't mind owning that car, but I know it'll bring big bucks.
