I have a 63 champ. I have recently dismantled the interior in order to restore. I took pics along the way off my disassembly of all aspects. However I have misplaced or lost ( due to my wife!!!) the pics I took of how the wires are conected in the cluster. I have just finished reinstalling everything after a hard year of work. The gauges all worked when I took the dash out. I have the speedo and all lights working , however the gauge cluster for the temp and gas are not. There are four connections on the back, two up top and two on the bottom, a red and white wire, and a orange and white wire. The orange goes to the temp sensor located on the side of the engine block. The red wire is located up top of the gas tank. The whites are neg grounds on the block. I have tried all combinations of plugging these wires into the connections and neither gauge will work. There are many smart people on this forums so I am hoping someone might have a trouble shooting solution for me. Thanks in advance jeremy

...sounds like you don't have the wiring schematic for your truck which is in the shop manual. I beleive any Lark schematic will work except fully intrumented 63-66' years. That being said, there were schematics posted on this board a month or so back....Maybe the search function, or someone else ...? If you don't get what you need ...email me and I can run you through it.

Jeremy,
I am far from an expert, but I think since you have a Champ and is so close to my '60 lark dash-wise, (and I have spent considerable time behind my dash lately) that I may be of some help since I have asked for help on this, too. I helped myself originally by doing my wiring before the windshield and dash pad went on, but if you are beyond that, the red plug is the furthest south location on that gauge for the gas; white plug to the lower center post; orange to the north and the other white to the other post. If everything is new and painted, try an extra ground wire to a clean metal spot under the dash and the gauge clamp & tied up safely from touching anything hot.
Most importantly, make sure there is a thick ground wire from the engine to the frame and bolted to a non-painted area for a good ground down there. Ground the tank to a small cleaned spot on the frame that is not painted, too. If both gauges aren't working in that temp/gas housing, it sounds like a bad ground like I had. My connections at the fuel tank sending unit and the temp sender on the head were both a little loose, too; check those again. It's simple, but makes you think there is much more of a problem under there, but they were just poor connections on my car. Also, the light plug holes are not exactly opposite of each other on that gauge, make sure the double wire plugs are in the correct holes for the red warning lights..easy to get swapped.
