  • Going rate for Dana 44 TT rear for Lark?

I'm going to be needing and looking for a TT Dana 44 rear complete drum to drum with a mid to upper(3.55-3.73) Posi(Twin Traction).
How much should I expect to pay?

Hopefully someone that is fairly close to South-west lower Michigan.

    Thanks,

Do you want a Flanged rear axle,or a Tapered? The going rate ,as far as I know,is $250 for a Twin Track, that is complete with brakes and drums. The higher gear ratios may bring more $$ because of the higher gear ratio. Try and get a complete setup, either axle type you get.Try emailing Daytona62@comcast.net and see if he has what you need.He is not that far away!

Well, they say that the only stupid question is the one that you don't ask, so here goes......
What is the difference between the two axle types? which is more desireable? And I guess my main concern would be, which is the stronger, more durable style axle/rear?

      Thanks guy's,

Flanged axles are much stronger. They were used on the R-3 & 4 Avanti's & later on the last 65's & 66's. If you do find a tapered axle though, there is a kit to convert it to a flanged axle if you so desire.

I'll take two in Canada at $250.00 especially with backing plates and brakes. One for my Hawk the other for the convertible.

Good luck finding a 3.54 TT or 3.73 TT. I ran across a 4.11 TT and gave Sonny (Racing Studebakers) the lead. I think he bought it too. It was too low for my cruising habits.

I've been looking for a 3.54 or 3.73 TT axle for well over a year. Avanti or Hawk/Lark. If you come across a spare let me know. I'll buy it on the spot. I am at the point of just buying the gear set and having it set up in my existing axle.

If your going to the PSMCDR you will want the Moser flanged axles, the tapered axles have weaknesses and tend to snap at un-opportunistic times, they have even been known to snap when driving down a highway and then you're watching your rear wheel fly by you. I believe the flanged axles are $450.00. and easy to install. Check with Fairborn Studebaker. I believe, Phil has that product line.

            Did you find a car?

              No,I didn't find a car. In fact, I haven't got a single offer/lead yet.

I need to find a 63 or 64 Lark with a v8/manual trans, and I can build from there.

              Anybody?
