  • Not even a rookie, but I know what I like!

My boss' dad parked a 1962 Lark outside of our business, three years ago. I offered to buy it the day he brought it here, but he said he wanted to work on it. Three long years go by, poor thing abandoned...and I finally hear (through the grapevine!) that he's going to sell it.

He didn't want to sell it to a girl, particularly one that didn't know a valve stem from a spark plug, but I nagged him and promised him I'd take care of it and love it and learn everything I could! He finally gave in, and today we signed the bill of sale.

So I'm totally psyched that for $600, I own a 1962 Lark, Studebaker engine, 34k original miles, parked indoors for 30 years, original everything. It's got minute specks of rust, but other than that the body is fantastic. I'm so excited, I might just pee.

I know nothing about cars. Matter of fact, I'm gonna come clean here - I have never in my life even pumped gas, and I'm 37. How's that for Princess? But I'll get dirty with this baby!

Once I get started, I'll probably be posting questions on an hourly basis, so just thought I'd say hi! [8D]

And don't get discouraged enough to stop working.

It WILL try to get to you...but don't let it get to you, things WILL smooth out and return back to normal...what ever "that" may be!
If you need to step back for a day or week or even 3 or four weeks...take the time to recharge and hit it full speed again.

I commend you on your endevor.

      Most important...keep it fun!

                Lori,

Here's a really good read for the new Studebaker owner, from the SDC Home page Tech Tips.

Welcome to the Forum and, if you haven't yet invested $19.95 for all the resources available as a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club--one issue of the monthly magazine TURNING WHEELS is worth it--please consider doing so.

Let us know how we can help.

                  Welome Lori,
Are you familiar with how to post pics? We would sure love to see a couple pics of the exterior and one of the engine compartment.
Welcome to the addiction and take it one day at a time.
                  Enjoy your new purchase.

Not only is it a great idea to join the SDC, but find your local chapter and join that as well. Members of your local chapter will probably be close enough by to help you when you need it.

                      Congratulations on your first Studebaker!

                        Lori:

Do join a local chapter. You should use them for questions, as a sounding board, and they may be able to help with parts and service.

The good news is that Studebakers are easy to fix, go forever, and parts are still available.

There are many mechanics/persons out there that will charge ridiculous prices for parts and services for a Studebaker newbie.

                        Enjoy. Paul

                          Congrats Lori,
Got to love the Larks. What a fun car. And don't let people charge to much for repairs. They are a back to basic car that like has been said run forever. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. The smile on your face while driving your Lark, Priceless.

It's been a while since I had my '63 but, I'll always remember getting on the beltway around D.C. and getting the "thumbs up" from the Lexus drivers. I got more response from that Studebaker than I ever did with the '57 Cadillac.

                              Lori - WELCOME!!

"Studebakering" is strong and alive in Ontario. And there are Studebaker Driver club chapters with lots of enthusiasts willing to help with your questions all across Canada and the U.S.A. - and for that matter, about 28 more countries. SDC has a total membership of about 12,500. There is a large Avanti club and a club which specailizes in Pre-war(WWII) Studes as well.

You're not alone. We'd all be glad to be of assistance. Congrats on your first Studebaker.
