  • Champ truck sliding back glass

Is a sliding back glass a desirable option to have in a T-cab truck? Or are they prone to leak, rattle, or fall out? Are they uncommon and can they simply be removed and replaced with flat glass if the owner so desires? Just requiring different rubber gasket? Gasket available?

I love mine, Thom. Opening the window behind the driver's seat provides a great breeze on the back of my neck at speed. I haven't tried to replace the track yet, but it is rusty and will require replacement in the near future. I've detected no leaks into the cab.

The sliding rear window is probably more common than the standard window.

There are six drains in the channel and the inside rubber lip is higher than the outside so if it leaks it is usually from the top. The track and rubber seal are two separate pieces so two people are a minimum for putting one in. Studebaker International lists the kit to put the sliding glass into a regular glass truck.

I love mine. They slide easily from either side and you get a full half of the window opening unlike the modern ones that only open in the middle of the window. I have never had a leak or a rattle. I just blow the pine needles out of the track periodically.

Not sure about studebaker but ever truck I ever worked on the rubber was the same and if you wanted to take out the slider you could and just put in standard glass.

I guess I'm the odd one here, I don't like the sliding window. If there is any dirt or leaves in the bed, it blows ten onto your hair and down your shirt.

Mine has a slider , wouldn’t be without it .never had a leak problem , in fact you can have them open when it’s raining without getting wet. The glass is tempered glass by the way .
i do have an extra set .

I love using mine. Only one of my Champs has the solid back glass. I have the parts for the slider & will put it in when the need arises.

I have a newly acquired '63 Champ 8E7, and it is THE First Deluxe Cab Champ I have EVER seen without one of the major features of the "Deluxe" Cab, the Sliding Window!
I have not yet ordered the Production Order to see if it was "Special Ordered" without that feature Standard on Deluxe's.

Our '60 Champ 5E6 Deluxe family owed since New, Nov. 1960, has the floor partially rotted out due to the Slider Drains draining on the floor.
So my '63 might be good having none AND, NO floor rust.

Our 64 Champ is all apart right now for painting and it does not drain on the floor. It drains just over the drive shaft to the outside. Granted there are some small gaps in the draining system which I plan on sealing before reassembly, Ed

I am a new Studebaker owner. I am in the process of putting in a slider that I did nor remove. Can you go thru the sequence of reassembly. I believe that I have all the required parts. Thanks (1963 Champ)
