Wow, awesome build! Interesting how good the car looks with that stance and those wheels. Thanks for posting!

          Thanks for posting Eddie.
I first knew Laurie when I was delivering newspapers to his mom & dad (Roy) in the early 60's. I was promised his Dad's Golden Hawk but by the time it came to fruition, Vancouver salt air had done a serious number on it which at the time, I was unwilling (and unskilled) to take on.
A few years ago Laurie built a '53 which as his talent has evolved, was absolutely stunning. He seems to have the "vision" to make everything work properly together.
I am still in touch with my old North Vancouver performance shop and the head technician (my surrogate son) had Laurie's' Avanti in for an alignment and he said it was a stunning build and yes, it sounds like thunder.
Apparently the pics can't do it justice.
          Cheers, Bill

The article mentions something I have not heard before. When Packard bought Studebaker (1954?) Packard was the US distributor of MB. I know that S-P was the distributor later in the 50s but did that come from Packard?

Nice article and better written/researched than most. Of course, with the car in the article, about the only thing Avanti is the body.

No, Don; that association did not come from / with Packard. That part of the article is in error. BP

The look of that car is killer. It is plenty Studebaker for me. I would love something like that in my garage----no better yet out on the road with me at the helm.

                      Hell-of-Avanti

Would have been better titled "Hell-of-Avanti!"

This Avanti was on display at the International Meet in Tacoma last summer. It was on the display field on Friday with many other Avantis. The photographs do not do it justice. It is absolutely stunning in person.

It is cool, though too low in front to be practical to drive on the street.

Well, Avanti anyway. Apart from the body there isn't much Stude left.
