Here's some shots of a 1957 President Classic sway bar that I removed and put into my former 1956 Golden Hawk.

If you are installing the sway bar purchased at the swap meet in Redwood City, my impression is that it is an aftermarket sway bar and mounts differently than the OEM sway bar. The vendor said as much and he might be able to tell you how it mounts.

Be careful of the brake lines.

There are several ways a sway bar can be mounted if you're not talking about a factory original bar and instalation. You can mount the bar to the frame above the axle and run links to the axle, this is what the pics above appear to show. You can clamp the bar ends to the front portion of the leaf springs with one clamp at the bend and one at the end of the bar on each side, the bar running under the axle, many aftermarket bars mount this way. Some factory bars simply bolt the ends of the bar to the control arms or trailing links. Or you can mount the bar to the top of the axle, or below it and run links to the frame, many factory installs are like this. The Lincoln MK IV rear bar mounts this way to the top of the axle and is very easy to retrofit to other applications. I've used it on both my F100 pickup and my '54 Chevy wagon.

Picture of the sway bar on my '55 President State Sedan

If you are talking original equipment, this is what mine looked like and how it attaches.

Without looking it up I believe Studebaker used the same rear bar setup on the 63 & 4 Larks & Hawks. The only difference was the left & right spring plates that the shocks mounted to.
