  • Spring Has Sprung!

Just completed the annual shake-down/rub down of the '54. New front end bushings, a few other minor repairs/adjustments, and lots of rubbing with DWG waterless car wash and protective glaze.

I was concerned that I might have to get the buffer out, due to some hard water spots, but the DWG got 'er done.

I was a little surprised that the bushings needed replacement, but then I realized that the first show we took the car to was Darrell Starbird's show in OKC in January of '99... this old car has been showin' and goin' for just over 20 years now! She's traveled many miles around the country, and I think is ready to see some new sites.

It's got a some road rash, but I think it could muster another first at an International meet. Hope we get a chance to find out!

Spring hasn't really sprung here yet. The temperature has been running about ten degrees cooler than normal for this time of year. The high today was 44 degrees F with rain.

Your '54 still looks great to me. You got me started with DWG and I still use it, but not yet this year.

I think she needs to visit back east again. What about the IM in Tennessee next year? I still remember riding with you on that road course at the Omaha IM. That's been a long time ago. And then there was the visit to Charlotte, NC. What I have always loved about you and that car is that you are not afraid to get out on the road. Keep it up!

I remember that well, Joe! I wanted to challenge the course a little harder, but didn't want to get thrown off of the course!

I agree... I need to get out that way again... and/or... you could drop down this way? I enjoyed your company!

          Dave,

It would be nice to see it over here at the Tulsa Zone Meet one of these years.

I intend to make it this year, Charlie! One problem with spring springing is my job as emergency manager sometime gets in the way.

I'm curious, Dave; how many times DOES one get to retire?

I 'reckon that's yet to be determined, Brad. The current count is 4, with one pending.

One of these days I finally need to meet Sheba myself.

                    I absolutely agree!

Seems like you met her in Memphis, but you were young, and wouldn't give a custom a 2nd look back then.

I was 10 years old, guess that was 19 years ago now. I liked her enough to take a photo, but that was a few years before I knew ya!

Well, I was ready to roll, but we have tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings to our south west, tracking this way. Tulsa may dodge the bullet, but I need to stay in place.

just like OSU football,”Maybe next year!”

                        Have a a great meet!

                        EDIT:

Tulsa has been placed in a tornado WATCH until 5PM today, and there are two tornado warnings just north and east of the city as of noon:

Unfortunately, It was a wet one. But good fellowship!

                            Dave,

The whole day was pretty well a wash-out for the car show. A few cars were judged under the covered entrance way. A prototype sports car was displayed. The silver lining that offset the dreary day was the fellowship that took place among the participants. The banquet and auction were very successful and the club netted a profit. This is the first spring zone meet that I have participated in that was an all-day rain-out. We had hoped that a band of rain would clear in 2-3 hours but it was a wider system that lasted a lot longer.

                            Charlie D.

Thanks for the report, Charlie! At least it was just rain... the potential was there for worse weather!
