  • Birthday wishes to two late great friends

Facebook tells me that April 13 was a shared birthday to two of my dear Studebaker friends, now departed. Happy birthday to Leonard Shepherd and Dale McPherson. You are never forgotten, and absolutely missed.

I was in Frankfort IN two weeks ago and stopped at Dale's grave to pay my respects on the way out of town. No evidence of any grave robbing, so I'm sure his mortal remains are still entombed right there. Did some math on the brass plaque over his and Barbara's graves and discovered that he was 19 and Barbara only 17 when they got married; that old fox! <GGG>

And Leonard Shepherd's former 1964 Daytona convertible is still resting soundly in my storage building next to the house, awaiting summertime.

RIP, guys; both of you were fine friends whose kindnesses will never be forgotten. BP

Thanks for the acknowledgment. There are many times when I am alone with my thoughts, involved in my daily projects, and situations arise that cause me to think of the "wisdom of Lark Parker." As long as his influence continues to impact our thoughts, he will remain with us.

One of the wonders of the development of internet communication is such things as this forum and our ability to connect to folks worldwide that we will never meet in person. Just as Dale shared his wisdom (marvelously cloaked in wit)... many of you have expanded my knowledge and enriched my life.

        Hopefully,
even with our occasional dust-ups, it is a characteristic of this forum experience that will predominate.

Leonard had one of the most complete Stude. Year and Model Photo Collections on his Computer, and shared them often, he IS very much missed here.

Two great guys for sure. It is a comfort to me that I can go to Facebook at any time and see their faces and some of the things they wrote. And I like that it lets me know when their birthdays are.

Makes me smile to see that Dale‘s last profile picture on Facebook was a stern faced elderly Clint Eastwood LOL

I have to share this from Dale‘s Facebook page, dated September 29, 2016:

“I only have two activities now. growing hair and cooking. Thursday I tried making a veggie omelet -- but it turned out to be a stir fry and I didn't have any soy sauce.”

Just one example of his unique, brilliant, sardonic wit

Not a political statement, but Leonard’s lack of insurance coverage is ultimately what led to his death. If he had been treated after his initial stroke the outcome may have been much different.

That is so sad to think of.

Health insurance is the only reason I haven’t retired from my job. No way I can take that chance.

Not necessarily. My Mother was fully insured and the company not only wouldn't pay for her treatment after her stroke, they blocked me from doing so as well. Who knows what would have happened. When the Lord calls for us, we really don't have much of a choice but to go.
