  • Studebaker hood ornament...possible repurpose

Rather random question, but I'm working on a side-project here and wondering if someone can tell me the width of the hood ornament base off of a late Lark. Specifically what is the width of the front of the base where the word 'Studebaker' is? Thanks, Junior

Okay, Junior, you've gotten us curious now. Can you share any hints as to what you're up to?

The '64 GT Hawk used it too. So do various other cool Hawks!

...unknown...until now... Studebaker design proposal from 1965. I've been working on this for just about 3 years, but life gets in the way me making much progress. At my current snail's rate I'll wrap this puppy up about 3 years from now...hopefully on April 1. cheers, Junior

Yes, I actually knew that but my mind was on 1965...not '64, not that there is any difference. While snooping around the web I also came across a photo of a Stude hood ornament with what appears the same base but a square with the 'S' in the middle instead of the 60's circle with the 'S' in the middle. Looked like they both had the same base. The caption with the photo said the ornament was off a 50's Stude. Cheers, Junior

Do you mean the 1967 proposal? http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...debaker-Grille

It was drawn with a rectangular hood ornament.

Actually, the unknown '65 proposal is in my brain...hence the (hopefully) Arpril 1 reveal date.

                    cheers, junior

From looking at the Buick Summerset ornament the others posted it looks as if someone put the Buick top on the Studebaker bottom. I think its ugly; the Buick "S" inside the square looks just like some of the advertising for Sears Point Raceway. The round '64 Stude Hood ornament looks much better. In the drawing of the '65, the hood ornament appears to have the same Studebaker "S" as the '64, but its inside a rectangle, way better than the Summerset "S".
