Happy Update: I just got The Official Results in this morning's e-mail. Peter Sant's competitor broke out (ran more than .300 under his qualifying time) in Round One, so Peter Sant officially won his shootout, too.

His competitor was a 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400. The Pontiac qualified with a 14.803 Elapsed Time. That means he could run as fast as 14.503 in the shootouts.

His first run against Peter was 14.482, however, so he broke out and forfeited the win to Peter Sant.

This brings back memories. A long time friend had a 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 that he bought new. I rode in it when it was about ten years old. It had already been stolen and recovered two times. The friend also owned, at the same time, a 1957 Golden Hawk that he either bought new or near new. Quite a combination of performance cars for the 1970s (not known for performance).
