Took the left axle out. Plan is to inspect the bearings and replace as needed and the axle seals.



I don't have a slide hammer or axle puller, although I probably could make one. A few taps with a hammer on the race and it moved, so I heated the housing up and used a bearing splitter on the axle. Using my dead blow on the splitter and it popped out.



Oops, it's going to need bearings.



This also fell out. It looks like it butts up against the spider gears. It must have broken off since I cannot imagine it would be loose overtime you go to grease the bearings.

Maple syrup. Nothing more I can do until I get the right side out so I can drop out the differential.

I moved on to the heater box.



Going to need the blower hoses.



Also removed the wiring that was left over from the trailer controller. That included that weird electrical cord.



While under the back end, trying to figure out the best approach to replacing the floor and rotted bits. Looks like a lot of work and will need to cut out the rest of the hitch. I'll try to just remove the rear bumper.



Wanted to get the brake pedal off the floor as I was fighting it every time I messed with the master cylinder. That return spring fought me for over half an hour, but I was victorious! Took a strong string, spring hook and needle nose to get that little bugger on. I painted a few things also, but that's enough for today, I'm tired

The button piece does but into the spider gear. One on each side. Originally had a split roll pin holding them together. I have a broom stick with the end drilled deep enough to fit the head of the button. A dab of grease on it and put back into the spider gear. Don't worry about the split pin.

Thanks DJ. Does the larger end go towards the spider gear or the thin end? I see the split pin inside. I was thinking of just using museum wax and placing it on the axle when I go to reinstall it.

There is a hole in spider gear cross. The small end goes in it. The button end out toward the axel.

I have a set of half decent front seats, centre console and rear bench, but there are a couple of problems
Firstly there for a 63 so have horizontal stripes.
second "larger" problem there in the UK...

Thanks, I appreciate the offer and i would imagine that the left front seat would be in good shape from the UK. When I had Rovers, we always tried to source UK seats, as your passenger side made good driver's side in the US. Shipping though..... Cheers!

Just a little more work today.



Pulled passenger side axle out.



It barely cleared the wall.



Looks like the seal was leaking. Number on the old sea is 530573, a flanged seal. A replacement I got from eBay is not flanged.

Came home from work and wanted to work on the battery tray. I had a piece of strap steel that broke off the trailer harness bracket. It looked perfect, to fit into the battery tray.



I did a bunch of pounding and bending.









Didn't turn out too bad for my limited talent. Still have to make a small filler for the corner piece. Time for dinner.

Roy, not yet. Looking on CL for a used one, since they are usually used very little, but take up tons of room in the garage.
