  • Film footage of Studebaker GT Hawk at 1964 Sebring race - per article in June TW

There is film posted on Youtube with some footage of the 1964 3-hour race at Sebring and it includes the 1962 GT Hawk mentioned in Robert Wilson's article in the latest Turning Wheels. Enjoyable article! The film was a promotional item put out for the English Ford line. Here's a link:

Look REALLY Quick, it's a English Ford Cortina Film, so you won't hear much mention or coverage of much else!

Excellent quality film for its age, and the number 2 GT Hawk looks like a big silver missile compared to all those Cortinas.

It looked to be keeping up with them for the most part.

Several years ago I was looking through the internet for videos of the old Chimney Rock Hill Climb. One that I came upon had a GT Hawk competing. I have not been able to find it again since. I wonder of the one competing here at Sebring could be the same one.

This video is a great look at the racing at Sebring. I enjoyed it a lot. Lotus Cortinas were cars I really lusted after back in the day.

So those Cortinas like to lift their inside tire huh?

It hink it was 1965. I watched the sports car races at Raceway park. There was a team cobra there #95 IIRC with Bob Johnson driving.

About the same year I went over for the Yankee three hundred which was usac stockers running on the road course. There was a Hawk there sporting 304 CI on the hood. Unfortunately it qualified last and finished last iirc. It looked grand though. I believe it may have been beigh or Ivory.
