  • 1961 1962 ? Studebaker Lark Wagon Southern California Find

I came across a Studebaker Lark Wagon (4 door) at the Ontario CA LKQ Pick and Pull. I figured you guys would want to know about it and I need a bit of information. There is still quite a bit left on the car (I saw the car just a couple of days ago), including the engine and the sheet metal. I just took the headlamp brackets and rear glass frame (glass was broken). The thing about it is that the vendor listed it as a 1962 on their site and 1961 was printed on one of the windows. Can anyone help me out on what year it is? Also, did Studebaker use the rear glass frame and lamps on any other vehicles--models and years?

Happy picking if you are around Ontario, CA (far drive for me but they usually have some interesting cars). Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's a 62. Thanks for the 'heads up' on the location. Lots of folks in that area should be interested. Did you notice if its a standard trans or automatic? Some may want to know.

Front bumper still looks usable, how’s the rear bumper?

I believe that the rear bumper was okay but not 100% sure since I recall the tailgate (bottom portion) having some damage. I can't recall if it had an auto or manual transmission.

The wagon was pretty cool. I don't know why it made it to the yard. I would have restored it.

Also, one of the sealed beams was a Tung Sol with what appears to be a dual filament. I've never seen anything like it. Pretty cool. Was the Tung Sol beam original to the car? If anyone has any info regarding whether the headlamp assembly can be used on any other model/year as well as the rear glass frame, I would greatly appreciate it.

I think Tung Sol sealed beams were usually found on GM cars of that era, but am not 100% sure of that anymore. Regardless, sealed beams from 4 headlight systems are usable on any brand car with 4 headlights. The low beam lights all had dual filaments, and the high beam bulbs had single filaments. As for the "headlamp assembly", do you mean the "buckets", etc.? (Everything except the bulbs.) You'd have to check the parts books to see for sure about use on other years/models.

I have purchased several NOS complete headlight assemblies from Avanti Parts and/or Newman & Altman, and they all came with GE bulbs. Tung Sol was/is an aftermarket company that made a variety of automotive electrical/electronic parts, including bulbs and signal flashers. Their original product line was vacuum tubes, which they still make (or have made in Russia). There is a TungSol connection with Studebaker, however. Wagner Electric, which owned Tung Sol, bought Studebaker-Worthington in 1967.

GM vehicles generally came with Guide light bulbs. Guide was a GM subsidiary.

I am referring to the 3rd photo pictured in my first post that I removed from the wagon (the buckets and brackets) -- will these work on all Studebaker models and years that have the dual lights?

I'll make a guess that, tho Studebaker (and others) used different suppliers through the years, and sometimes within a model year..... the fitment remains the same...Tho, say for Larks....60's may be different than 64's....I don't know those specifics. I'd guess your 62' wagon buckets fit 62 & 63's anyway...

No. 62-63 only. The 5" sealed beam bulbs themselves will interchange with any vehicle built with dual headlights from 1958 on.

The Upper Tailgate Frame and Glass fits 1960 to 1962, 2 and 4 Door Wagons, if this is a P4 Deluxe Wagon it will have a Painted one.

The P6 Regal Model Wagon Stainless Steel one, is quite rare and desirable, as it will replace the cheap looking painted ones.
