Hello again to everyone helping me out.

I do have another question though.

The serial number on our car is 8848238,the Body number is 460, and the block serial number is VL-5347.
    According to Turning wheels,t
he Serial Numbers on the second series Commanders, were from 8843001 to 8849083.
How close was it to the end of the 1955 production year, and the start of 1956?
The car shipped on August 12th of 1955.

Also, since only 85 of the 2nd series Commander Custom 2 door sedans were built (16G8F2),
is it possible to figure where mine was based on the above information?

    Thanks again

    Mike

I get 845 Cars from the end of ALL 1955 Commander V8 Production ONLY at the Vernon Los Angeles Plant., that would include Station Wagons, 2 doors, 4 Doors, Coupes and Hardtops.

Among 16G8-F2 Custom 2 Door Sedans, the number would be quite small and no way to know.

Probably within about 10 Days or less of the Line Shutdown.

It is a whole different deal with how many South Bend and Canada built!

I agree with Rich on the 845 from the end of Commanders from Vernon (LA) only.

Where do you get "85"of these built? Is that the number that were assembled in Vernon (LA) alone? I do not see how you could have body number 460 if that 85 represented all of that body assembled in the three plants.

We have a young lady in our chapter who has a '55 two door Champion sedan. I always thought it was a nice looking car. The seam does detract from these cars to some extent, but this car has had those seems filled. In all honesty, though they may look better with the seam filled, I wouldn't particularly care if it were or not.

I always liked the stainless winged "Jet" that they had covering the seam on some 2 doors.

I had the nicer level (F4 ?) back in the 70's and thought it the best riding Stude I ever had. It had a 224/OD.... I'd place the value @ $2-3500. for an actual customer...maybe a tad more for a resto rodder with unusual tastes/creativity...
