Looking for another sorces for rubber wheather seals.

I ordered new "retainer seals, pt# 770149" for my 52 hardtop from Studebaker International and received pt# 770148 which is the retainer seal for 1948-52 convertibles. When I called and asked about the discrepancy I was told they didn't have the part I requested but the part sent was the closest they had. The cross-section is not correct. If I have to use the parts from SI I will be undoing 65 years of unrestored originality.

I've done numerous web searches and browsed through universal weather seals, Chevrolet, Ford and Chrysler vendors looking for something that might be closer than the parts from SI.

If you know of another source for Studebaker weather seals please share the information.

Studebaker substituted 770149 with 770148. So what S.I. sent you is "factory correct" as far as replacement parts go.

I contacted Stephen Allen and was told they use the 770148. Note the 770149 is in the SI catalog and cost $2.50 more than the 770148; my invoice listed 770149 and the charge was correct for what I ordered but the part was labeled 770148. If the 770148 was more similar to the 770149 I would have moved on days ago. I have followed up on every suggestion so far with out success so it may be I will run out of options. The 770148 looks like a small version of fender welt; the 770149 rolls off to an inverted drip edge. Only because Studebaker went to the trouble to design and manufacture this part, it seem prudent look for the correct configuration.

BOTH the "Original" and the Superceding Part numbers are N&A's Own Reproduction Parts and Numbers. So NEITHER are Studebaker.

StudeRich you peaked my curiosity and I have looked at the N&A (1987) catalog and it shows both part numbers indicating one for the convertibles and the other for the hardtop. There is an "end view" shown which doesn't match the 770149 on my hardtops (yes there are three) or the 770148 provided by SI. The N&A price was $15 each for either part# and the SI are $10ea for the 770148 and $12.50ea for the 770149s.

Metro Rubber in the Twin Cities only makes rubber products for automobiles, but I never checked to see if they have any Studebaker parts.

It looks to me like the ONE that matters is the Over Door Seal, 801257, do you have that and is it in the Correct position?

Both the 770149 and the 801257 appear to be just a strip of extruded Rubber, NOT special Molded Pieces so fit should not be critical, nothing precise like a Vent Window Seal or something.
