Virgil Exner designed the Imperial in those years; not Brooks Stevens.

The Imperial and Willys could be a study in both similarities and contrasts. Both are riffing off similar shapes while the Willys is a little bland and the Imperial is a bit too flamboyant, especially with those weird headlight pods.
1963 Champ "Stu Bludebaker"- sometimes driver
1957 Silver Hawk "Josie"- picking up the pieces after an unreliable body man let it rot for 11 years from an almost driver to a basket case
1951 Land Cruiser "Bunnie Ketcher" only 47M miles!
1951 Commander Starlight "Dale"- basket case
        1947 Champion "Sally"- basket case
1941 Commander Land Cruiser "Ursula"- basket case

The Imperial is tame compared his Stutz design. http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...Stutz-IV-Porte

Agree on the Soviet look. That's what my first thought was, too.

I owned a 54 Aero Willys Lark and don't think this was/is an improvement.

Designed by different people, yep, but narrow that Willys grill & put the lights down under those heavy eyebrows or widen the Imperial grill & put single lights above...

Yep, I bought the March issue of Hemmings Classic Car which has an entire article on the Brazilian market Willys.
