My wife and I attended the Studebaker Museum last summer and thought it was a truly excellent presentation. Well we are a little prejudiced after all.
When we left we both thought that they are missing something big- A US-6 on the front lawn would be a stunning statement as to how Studebaker contributed to the World War II effort in any way they could.
Andrew are you listening?

The US6 is a whole different can of worms. The SNM actually does own one, in fact it was part of the original Studebaker collection. They have it on loan to some museum near Auburn, IN that's not climate controlled but at least it's inside. There has been a push recently to bring it home but to no avail. Sadly the feeling I get from the SNM is that they don't care about that truck even though it's a major part of the Studebaker story. And anybody who says they don't have room is either uninformed or a lair. A US6 would fit in the basement of the museum, you'd just have to temporarily take the wheels off to get it there and then put them back on.Chris Dresbach

Richard your 1941 is one sweet vehicle and quite a rare one. Can you enlighten us regarding the price comparison of your 1941 Coupe with the box accessory to an M-5? I'm guessing that you got more truck for less money with the M series than the Champ Coupe conversion - but a purchaser like Tom Lewis could get factory white walls with the Coupe and white walls were probably not available on the M Series.

The Coupe Delivery and M Series 1/2 ton were really totally different animals with one being a car and the other a truck. Not sure a price comparison is really enlightening. The optional box was $31.00 in 1941 ($25 in 1939-40) and unless otherwise stipulated the cars also came with the deck lids for conversion back to a standard coupe. Have one each of the three years the option was offered as shown below. So far as I know (and I have been looking for years) these three are the only ones in existence. I do have a spare box that will fit a '41-46 coupe.
I am sure you could order white wall tires on any M5 truck (except for the '42s) though it is highly improbable that (m)any were ordered that way. Images attached.
