Hemmings Concourse

This year I had the privilege of showing my Speedster at the Hemmings Concours in Lake George, NY. Studebaker was one of the featured marques and was well represented by Don Armascots 31 President Roadster Speedway, George and Valerie Vassos 35 Commander Roadster, Jerry Kiers 38 Coupe Express, Bill Victorios 49 Champ, Bill Clark's Speedster, Dennis Jolicoeuers 57 Golden Hawk, and Mark James 58 Golden Hawk. Wayne Carini was the Sat night speaker and presented trophies on Sunday. It was a nice show in a nice venue. Some random snapshots are at the slideshow below.

While this gathering demonstrated that, through the years, there has always been an aspect of "group think," in automotive design, each make had a distinctive character. Unlike today, where most appear to look like a cigar in search of a light.

Sitting on this field, for those willing to engage in the mental exercise, is rolling history of human innovation and inventive ability. Something, if we take the time to ponder, and reflect...should give us a much deeper appreciation than a mere collection of cars.

In retrospect, the Studebaker compares excellent with its contemporaries throughout their years of production. The Coupe Express, proved that a vehicle could be utilitarian, and yet...elegant.

Terrific venue for such a great event!
