I have a flathead 6 cylinder engine with a stamped number of s3503 and a space and then either a 6 or a 5. What do I have? It has an overdrive trans with it.

Only IF it is stamped INTO a Machined Flat Pad on the Driver's side, Front at the Top of the Block near the Head, would it actually BE a Engine Serial Number.

I can't seem to make those numbers compute. If the First digit were a 5 and not an "S" and the last digit part of the number it could be a 6 Digit Studebaker Casting Number meaning nothing important, but the problem with that is, you said it was "Stamped" not Raised.

Must be a '59 engine. Starting serial # S10001

Or, could it be a factory replacement, crate engine? That someone, who knows why, chose to stamp that number into?
