Can sulfation be avoided by removing the acid from a battery that's going to be stored over winter?

The six volt Optima fits diagonally in a standard Studebaker battery box if you trim a bit from the hold-down tabs.

Once the battery has sulfation it is pretty well gone. Not much can be done. I would recommend using a battery maintainer for long term storage. VDC has the Battery Minder and Deltran makes the Battery Tender in 6 volt. I always stocked them at my battery stores in Omaha. I am quite sure they still keep 6v units in stock. We sold gobs of 12v maintainers. The Optima 6 volt is a great battery. I probably sold more 6v than the 12v. All the Packard, Chrysler, Dusenberg, etc guys swore by them.

I love my Optima's, I had one last for 10 years with no problems. I had one disconnected for a year and a half and it started the car right up, even had to crank it awhile to get the gas up to the carb. They come with a three year free replacement. Most acid batteries are on there way out at three years. The best part is there is no corrosion to eat away at things.

                        Agree!
I have one in my custom and it's great. No worries about wrecking paint, battery box or running board.
If they make one that will fit the Avanti, I'll get one post-restoration.
Wonder if they make a "Tar-top" for the long slim Avanti battery?
