  • What kind of key

I was looking at the latest SI flyer and thought I'd get new keys for my 64 Hawk and 59 Lark but don't know if they take Hurd or Yale keys. One is for 47 - 63 , is there any difference between 63 and 64 ignitions that would require a different key.
    Thanks
    Joe

Yes the '64-'66 Ignition/Door Key Blank is very similar to the '47-'63 Yale Lock/Key but it is different, it only has ONE lengthwise groove vs 2 on earlier Yale Type.

A '47 to '58 Commander/President or a '59 Lark VIII Ignition/Door had Hurd Locks "from the Factory" with the skinny, short shanks.

The '47-'58 Champions, '59 Lark VI's and all '60-'63 had YALE Locks.

Could they have been changed over 50 Years? Of course.

I have regular Original Type Studebaker Logo Keys, in Nickle plated Brass for all 3 Types, if you are not set on the fancier Studebaker Crest Type.

Best to compare what you already have that works and compare it to the available blanks. As Rich said, over the years they may have been changed.

In 1964 Studebaker went to Briggs and Stratton locks and used them into 1966 and they went back to Yale locks on the very last cars.
As Studerich noted the blanks are different, one or two grooves.
        These are the 1964-66 blanks
