  • Where Did They Go

    Hey Fellas and Gals :

Here is more food for thought . Ever notice how many Studebakers are on the internet and when you try to get in touch with the owner you never hear from them . Then when you go to look it up again it has disappeared off the screen ?? Ever wonder where they went ?? I manage the registry for the 65 Daytona Sports Sedans and have noticed 11 of these cars come and go within the last year . I have had a few and very few return answers to my emails with the all important serial number and that is basically all I get but at least I can add it to the surviving cars . But after that who knows where the cars go . Anyone got some thoughts as I am sure there are more cars and trucks other than ours that disappear off the internet .

This forum, if that's what we a talking about, does not come close to reaching all of the Studebaker owners. With less then two thousand responders, it makes up just a small percentage of the SDC/ASC members. Many those who do respond are not regular viewers, and many of those never respond at all. Who knows how many cars are in the hands of owners who have never heard of the SDC. Only about fifty percent of folks over sixty five years of age even have internet access. That number in going up as our population ages, passes away, and are replaced by the newer sixty five plus folks who do have computer access. Responders are just a drop in the bucket, so trying to get any kind of comprehensive response has to fail.

            Hi Hallabutt :

You are probably right the forum is a small percentage but I feel if I can reach someone then that is a small step towards my goal and that is to find as many as I can . Then at least I made a contribution of sorts to the club and myself .

This subject touches on those silly claims people make about a car's scarcity; "One of XXX number remaining." What they mean is, "One of XXXX number me and my closed minded circle of friends know about". My uncle Bob had about 30 orphan cars of various makes, for over 30 years. None ever moved, were seen in public or registered with any DMV or marque club. Now how does any "expert" count any of them? Some people guard their privacy.

                  Mohr HP :

Ya but you have to consider there are people that would like to know and we have to use the term "Known To exist " as there is surely more people such as your uncle who hide these treasures out of the site of general Joe public for whatever reason . The post was ever wonder where they went not whose the expert on these cars . You mentioned that in your opinion it touches on the silly . Then there is more silly people around than you will like to admit . Who knows maybe somethings you do or say other people say your silly . We are all entitled to our opinions and we both have stated ours .
