  • Build Sheet Fun

A few years ago I picked up a 53 hardtop and put it in storage. The storage place ended up moving and leaving it outside for two or three upstate New York winters and I retrieved it this fall. When it got inside and dried out the sheet metal looked pretty good, needing only floor patches and some torque box repair. The body was not screwed to the frame and when I checked to see if I could read the frame ID number to see if it matched up with the door post tag I was astounded that I could read it and they matched. All I got was a tub and wires, but I was pretty sure this car came with a V8 and OD, was painted Chippewa and Lombard green and had a heater. I sent for the Production Order and it came this week. Everything was as I thought, but the car was delivered to Mineral Wells, Texas. Its a long ways from home. A peek through the forum even found a picture of the dealership.

Another forum search found this. Chippewa and Lombard Green

I could be talked into painting mine like this, just the way it was.

If you could paint your Starliner the way it is in the photo, it would look great. I love that color combination. Good luck with the restoration.

Years ago, I had a 1953 Commander Starliner that I had a 1957 Golden Hawk engine in. It was originally those colors, but had been painted red before it was ten years old. I stripped the car and got rid of the remains (body, chassis, etc.). I thought that yours might be the same car, but mine was an automatic.

That Stude. Truck is a 1959 Studebaker Deluxe, one of those one-off year, "NOT a Transtar" Trucks! It's '59 Tahiti Coral.

Check out those Hub Caps, they appear to be the 3/4 Ton Type, used on much later Champs! Maybe it's a 4E-12-122.

That's another beautiful 53, but what's up with the trim on the pickup door?
It looks incomplete, or out of place.

That's normal for the trim, I'd guess most trucks that had this trim were two toned though.

It's a Deluxe Cab! They all had the Two Tone Moulding whether Single Color or Two-Tone.

Here is Steve (55Coupe) Rainville's 55/53 that I believe is those same colors. This picture was at the Sacramento International Auto show where the car had an endless stream of admirers. Most raved about the colors.
