  • My Indy car will be in Indianapolis, talk on Wednesday Sept. 8 at 1:30pm

I got the finishing touches (almost) done on the re-created 1932 Studebaker Indy car, will be putting it in the trailer for the trip to Indianapolis and the ASC/SDC meets. The Studebaker Wheel logo and the numbers (25) will get applied after the paint dries a little more. On Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 1:30 pm, the car will be in the Coliseum at the fairgrounds and I'll be giving a presentation on the process of researching the Indy cars and building a re-creation.

Unfortunately, due to some other commitments, we can't stay all week, so will be leaving Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

The color is a little dark in this photo, thanks to Hurricane Ida rain storms. The paint is "Silver Mist" from the 1963 GT Hawk colors.

Wonderful, Gary; you'll be the talk of the meet. 'Can't wait to see it!

That will help ease the pain of two of our presenters having backed out: Jeff Rice due to understandable medical issues, and the Professor from I.U. scheduled to speak has refused to present due to the Meet Committee's voluntary mask policy. Seriously. (Meet Chairman Joe Bacon has said, "We aren't going to be the mask police; everyone is free to make that decision for their own self." However, the Meet Committee has purchased 1,000 masks that will be available for the asking at the registration desk.)

The Co-Operator Tech Session is still "on" for Thursday afternoon, as advertised. Tentatively, as of today, Ted Harbit has promised to be on the dais to answer questions. Ted will also have posters to autograph and sell.

'Looking forward to seeing everyone! Y'all drive safe! BP

Gary, thank you for taking the time to bring this important replica to Indy for a short stay and display. It is a fabulous example of your omitted effort to get it finished in time for the meet.

I have been looking forward to seeing your car. I was just telling my son-in-law about it yesterday. Of course, I'll have to sneak out of the swap meet.

That really is a "Special" vehicle. Well done. Hopefully you can have it at the SB meet in 22.

The next newest Octane magazine has a nice article about a man from one of the eastern european countries who had a chassis for a Buick on hand and decided to build an Indy car. He now lives in CA. It looks a lot like Gary's car even down to the headlights. His is light green though.

I will make every effort to make it to the presentation, Gary.

Oh I see it is in the coliseum.

I'll be in a wheel chair or golf cart but intend to get in to see Gary's talk and the car. I have been looking forward to this opportunity!

So I just called them at the state fair grounds and they said there is a horse thing on Wednesday the 8th. Can anybody clarify this for me please?

I am not a representative of the Convention, but I see the SDC Convention as listed as being held at the Marion County Fairgrounds, not "the state fairgrounds".
