  • Caravan to Indianapolis September '21

I am considering driving my '47 Land Cruiser from Seattle to the Intl meet in Indianapolis in September. Would anyone be interested in caravan with me?

Sounds like a great time, but we have not committed to going to the Intl. meet due to vacation restraints. A group of Studebaker cars and trucks crossing the country would be a memorable experience.

I don't understand these posts! The meet is Sept 8 - 11, 2021. September OF 21. The body of the text makes that obvious - in September. It will take about five days to get there.
              Yikes!

The first three days will be underwater, unless the bridge from Hawaii to the mainland is completed. I hope to be able to go the the meet. From Arizona to Indy is a hard two day drive. I have done that before but not this time. I figure if I leave on the 4th, I may arrive early but want to take my time. I will be happy to go north to meet up with a caravan of Studebakers. Keep me posted on the plans.

We were confused because in the title you wrote it as 'September 21st', not 'September 2021' or even September '21. And you didn't clarify it in your post. Honest mistake. But we are clear now. I guess syntax and punctuation really DO make a difference.

My Hawk is very road worthy, but I doubt that I can convince my better half to ride along without working AC. If I can get vacation time sorted out, maybe I will drive out, and pick her up at the airport there. Keep us posted.

Randy, all kidding aside I figure that you will leave Seattle on September 3. That is a bit of a out of the way for me to start in Arizona. There may be a few people to start with you from Seattle. If you can figure where you will stop each day and spend the night, people will be able to join at the spot and time. This would be like planning the Great Race.

As an aside, I bought a 1948 Land Cruiser in the San Jose area years ago. It turned out to be an adventure that actually took two trips to get the car home. First thing was the overdrive did not work. Second, dash lights did not work so I bought a flash light to shine on the dash to see the speedometer and gauges. Third, I had to leave the car after pulling a grade then it conked out and had to come back later from Arizona with a tow dolly. Too old to be doing that again. After I got the car sorted out, ran and drove great.

For the Colorado Springs IM, in 95-degree weather, I rode from and to Spokane in Curt Campbell's '55 Speedster without AC. Took me back to my roots of growing up in Alabama before AC in cars was a thing po' folk thought they could afford.

Randy, I did a rough MapQuest lookup and came up with 35 hour 40 minutes and a distance of 2,288 miles give or take. Figure 7 to 8 hours a day and it is a 5 day drive. I could find an old atlas around to figure stops where we could meet for an overnight stay then continue to caravan. Let me know if you would like me to figure further.

For me to meet up, I figure either Montana or Wyoming to meet up.
