  • Cool/Heat: 1939 Commander Radiator Overflow

    Hi all,

One of our, (Studebaker of Australia), clients has a '39 Commander hearse which we have been doing some water pump work on. The owner has been chasing a correct radiator cap as he says it keeps leaking coolant. When I took a closer look I noticed the overflow pipe was inside the top tank just under the opening, not in the cap riser, therefore each time he added coolant above the pipe it just ran out. Is this correct for the '39 Commanders?

After it's been run hot and cooled down, check the coolant level. As long as it's just covering the top of the tubes he's good. These need never be filled to the top cold.
