  • Body / Glass: Hardtop door glass removal (glass from frame)

I have a '64 GT. Trying to place the glass setting channel seals. I didn't see anything in my shop manual about replacing the glass in the frame. The problem I'm having is getting the glass out of the lift channel to replace the lower glass setting channel seal. The stainless frame is off but any tips to get the lower piece off? It seems to be crimped on.

The glass (as i recall) is forced into the lower part w/ a rubber-like seal between the two- It is quite tight (had mine done by an auto glass shop, but did watch the procedure).

You can soak that seal with PB Blaster or similar penetrating lubricant and patiently wiggle it out.

A few taps with a hard wood block also seems to work sometimes. I always installed them with Marvel Mystery Oil on the setting tape and use a rawhide mallet to seat the glass. Be sure the old channel is clean and has no rust scale that can cause a stress crack during re-installation. I have several NOS stainless frames taking up space.
