  • Body / Glass: Fuel Door 1962 GT Hawk

Any tricks or additional spring combinations to get a partially open fuel door to lay flat against the body when closed? I have seen other Hawks with this same ailment. I think the door gets over stressed and bends hinge parts because of the up-swing design. Is there a way to have the door open to the side rather than up? I am afraid to make it worse or bend the door itself by trying to fix it.

My eye always goes to the fuel door when I walk past the car....

    Thanks,
    Jim

If the springs are holding the door shut as far as it will go, then the hinge area needs to be adjusted (formed/bent). Remove the fuel door to do this. Do not try to form/bend it on the car or you will most likely bend the door itself.
First, be sure that your springs are strong enough to pull the door in and that the hinge is lubricated and moves freely.
