Make sure the rubber gasket goes into the neck far enough. They seemed to change depths over the years.RadioRoy, specializing in AM/FM conversions with auxiliary inputs for iPod/satellite/CD player. In the old car radio business since 1985.

The 1956 to '66 all use a 14 Lb. (Short) 3/4 Inch reach Pressure Cap.
The Gasket on the end of the center spring is required to seal the pressure in.
The Gasket UNDER the top Cover is only needed for a Coolant Recovery System. The New Generic Caps now all have those and they should do no harm on a non-overflow tank Car, but are a must if you add one.StudeRich
