  • Engine: R series valley covers

Is there a difference between an R1 and R2 valley cover?
    Thanks in advance,

Nope, should be the same. A production change was made during the Stude Avanti run where they stoped chrome plating them and just painted them black. (like the rest of the block.)

Don't know when or why...but there are two "different" covers.

      1. one has a "socket" for the road draft tube in the back
      2. one has a fitting welded in to for a PCV valve sticking up out of the rear portion of the cover

Nither of the two I have are chrome plated.

We're speaking about valley covers on "R" engines Mike.

Avanti covers would not have either a road draft tube nor a pcv fitting. The pcv valve screwed into the back of the carb, and crankcase ventilation was from a tube bolted to the side of the oil pan.

I can answer your confusion about the two types of Lark/Hawk Valve Lifter Cover Plates (non-Avanti/JT, JTS).

The 1963's had an ADAPTER to fit the large hole with a small Bolt hole in it. This Cover USED TO BE used for the draft tube, and later for the PCV. A 3/8" Hose connects to the adapter.

The 1964's have a threaded fitting welded in, to screw in a PCV Valve with a 3/8" Hose on the other end and no large hole at all.

As Bez said, neither of these were used on "R" Series Engines.
