  • Front Axle / Front Suspension: Commander 1939 Front suspension help

    Hi,
Have started to strip down the front brakes, steering and front suspension.
So, can anyone help either with some exploded pictures as need to know how to remove the top bolt, how the Houdaille arms and unit works as mine are either flapping in the breeze or seized up.
Have successfully sheared the head off the end of one top bolt,so not a good start!
Where can I purchase rubber bushes etc and rubber bump stops as all will need replacing, only planning on doing it once so will try and do it right...

So hoping someone can point me in the right direction

If you are determined to do it right get a Shop Manual and a parts book (the best for this model is the 1934-46 Chassis book) before you go a step farther. The parts are likely available and most will be reasonably priced except maybe for the shocks. Try Joliet Studebaker <studebaker@mac.com> but be sure you have the part numbers before you try.

      Thanks Richard,
Have a shop manual but not a parts book,
Have found one on Ebay, so should be winging its way here shortly.
Did you get the last email I sent to you re your article and magazine?
