  • Body / Glass: Removing stainless

What is the best way to remove the 2 stainless trim pieces that go on the top of the rear fenders on a 55 commander K hardtop Regal ? Look to be about 4' long. I tried a search but came up empty. Also would like to locate a nice pair of left and right stainless side moulding for the front fenders. Thanks

They are held on with clips and can be pried off. The clips are made so the trim locks under one side and slides over the other and snaps in place. Start from one end and pry from the inside working toward the other end. Do your prying right at the clip, you should be able to see where they are. I like to use a stiff plastic tool, but an alternative is a screw driver with the tip wrapped with duct tape. There is a possibility that in nearly 60 years, the clips have been removed and replaced. If that has happened someone could have put them on backwards. If you do not meet with success prying them gently from the inside, try one from the outside. The key is to proceed carefully to avoid bending or distorting the trim piece. When you go to put them back on, place some masking tape over the ends to avoid scratching your paint. Then once the trim is in place you can pull the tape off.
