An R1 cam in a stock 259" results in lessened low end torque, less smooth idle, lessened fuel economy and a very slight gain in acceleration from 3,500 to 4,500 RPMs.

All Standard Non-Avanti, Non-Truck, Non-Export V8's from 1957 to 1964 have at least 8.5 to One Compression, IF you have not Ported the Heads or otherwise Modified it.

That being said, I would think if you have a 4 Barrel Carb. and Dual Exhausts on your 259, at 3500-4000 RPM and Over you SHOULD see SOME small improvement in 1/4 Mile Times.

I rode in Jon Myer's Wife Betty's, '63 Daytona Wagonaire with a 259 Flight-O-Matic, AFB 4 Barrel and R1-2 Cam and even WITH all that weight, that thing would REALLY get up and GO!

Putting around Town at 2-3000 RPM, just a waste of Gas.
