I slit the rubber, on the inside, to the pivot pin hole. That way, it is not necessary to remove the vent window, and only need to work the rubber into place. An old trick Lester Schmidt taught me several decades ago. R.I.P. Les
I too, drill a hole in the door to access the pivot pin adjustment screw, and like to shoot a little silicone spray in there to loosen it up, if its hard to pivot. Otherwise, the pivot pin is more likely to break in the window frame. Its very fragile at that connection anyway, so it helps to be careful.
