The door handles we have appear to have a stainless steel "sleeve" covering the steel core. The stainless steel has some dings and really needs to be polished. Can the stainless be removed from the underlying core mechanism?

I don't think so. Found a couple nice ones for our 49 at swap meet for not-too-much. -
It's possible to elevate minor dings in stainless skins on handles, bumper bolts, etc. by very gently tapping around the perimeter of the ding. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but it works, as long as the ding is minor.Brad Johnson,
