Would these work for crankshaft shims, as I know they are not as easy to find these days in all sizes.

If not just let me know.

I just ordered a couple of sets to check them out. I'll report on how the shims work in practice.

Good to hear they might be a viable option. I'm going to also order some as although I had about 5 V8's in my garage in the last few years I cannot find even one shim on hand. I have one crank on the shelf, on it's end, and will check tonight.

Doesn't seem like that long ago I bought 4 of all the thicknesses from Stude International. They had all of the sizes in stock.

I did read your other post where you bought three of each, .003, .005, .007/9 depending on what SI lists them as.

After I saw these though I thought of the SI price of $3 each and that I can make adjustments in .001 increments and for less than $0.70 each. Some had mentioned they had a hard time finding them so I post about what I found.

I received the shim packs from Zoro this week.

Yes, they're the correct inside diameter and thicknesses.

No, they're much smaller outside diameter than the OEM shims.

Maybe, they'll work, since the shim does not directly take any thrust or wear.

Got mine last night. They do have a smaller outside diameter but as you mentioned they should work. I will install some this weekend, I hope, so will report back if I run into any problems.

As it is the outer diameter of the thrust plate that takes the brunt of the thrust, which is backed up by the crank gear, so the shims do nothing more than provide the correct space/distance between the front of the number one main bearing and the thrust plate, I can't see any issues . As long as they do not crush and can maintain their form they should work as well as the originals.

If anyone has input on the shims being an issue please speak up before one of us installs them and disaster follows.

Shouldn't be a problem. There will be no disaster.
