  • Engine: Hawk Oil Filler Tube

What is the purpose of the plate bolted to the oil filler tube on my 289?

I'm not sure I know what you mean by a "plate."

Could it be a left-over mounting plate from a previous canister oil filter? BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

Earlier engines, (pre 55) had the fuel pump mounted on the oil filler tube. Some oil fill tubes just blocked off here they were mounted. The moved the fuel pumpto the timing cover in 55.

Speaking of the pre-1955 oil fill tubes...I need one and the push rod to operate the fuel pump. I'll be happy to trade a later one for the earlier one. I have a 232 with those parts missing.
