  • Cool/Heat: V8 Water Manifold Bolt Pattern Dimensions

I need dimensional information for the eight bolts that hold the water manifold to a V8 engine. Just the front view. I am making a plate that will be tied to all eight to support all the accessories. I want to get it right the first time I cut it.

Why not remove the water pump manifold from the engine and clean the mating surfaces real well? Then, coat the manifold's mating surfaces with ink or machinist's dye and simply place the manifold on a sheet of paper to "ink" the paper where the manifold outlets and bolt holes are located. BP

Don't forget, the two cylinder banks are offset. That is legs on one side of the water manifold are longer than the other. Gasket surfaces for the block and heads don't lie in one plane.

An excellent point, Mike; thanks for the reminder. BP

The whole point of working from an engineering drawing is that it is the bench mark. Measuring any field part leaves you open to not knowing where you are on the factory tolerance, +? -?. The four flanges are in three different planes. I was hoping Silver Hawk Dan could help me based on the supercharger plate he has for sale. I don't want to take the time to go to the Mueseum as it will be spring until I get the info.

I would think the best center to center measurements for your Plate is the Holes in a Block and Heads with the heads on, that has not had a lot of material removed from Heads or Block.

The Water Manifold has elongated/oversize Holes for the Heads, and would be harder to get good centerlines.

Do not forget that the truck V8 engines have a different water manifold.

Rkap, What is different about the truck manifold?

I have a good picture of a '55 truck water manifold in my email; which I can forward. I don't understand how to post the picture here. Can I mail it to someone who will post it?
Generally, the water pump is mounted higher than passenger cars.

But, for the sake of this discussion, the mounting to the engine is exactly the same.
