  • Engine: Engine Number

The engine code number on my 64 Wagonaire is VJ317. After a lot of searching,
I can't find that engine number listed. The question is WHAT ENGINE DO I HAVE!
    I was told it's a 289.

    You were told wrong.

    It is a 259 cid V8 built in 1963 for installation in a 1964 model Lark-type.
It is likely the original engine in your Wagonaire. A production order from the SNM will verify that (to the extent of the day that the engine was built; all 259s built on that day have the same Engine Number).

It's a 259 built on September 17, 1963. Go the bottom of the table for an explanation of 1964-model engine numbering.
