  • Body / Glass: How to remove the cowl stainless trim - 1955 President coupe

    Hello

I am preparing my 1955 coupe for new paint and most of the trim removal was pretty easy. However, the cowl trim ( stainless) seems to be tricky. Do I have to unbolt the dash to get access to release the trim as it seems that these three parts are held in place with screws/ nuts. I have a few shop manuals / body parts manuals but not one showing how to remove these correctly. And to get them back as well.

Thanks for any help on this.

There are nuts securing these pieces, sometimes someone with a small hand and flexible wrist can remove them. When you re-install the trim remember that when you took it off there were rubber washers on the outside, keeping the rain out. Don't forget to replace them,

That is 1 year only, 55 Coupe (Stainless). Once you get it of, could you post pictures of the clips, rubber, and nuts.

I've done it several times. They are way, way up there but accessible without removing the dash.

Easiest way I have found is 1/4 inch socket wrench and several extensions (about 15"(?)). I believe the nut/ socket size is 7/16". A wobble may help, but not is necessary since the nuts are basically horizontal.

Patience and a small magnetic flashlight that will stay in place. remove the front seat cushion and put a carpet over the frame for comfort. You have to lie on your back.

Removeing the radio and glove box help alot. The trime on the doors and around the side windows its all nuted clips and not all are avable you might have to use newer stuff. While you have it off polish that stainless it will look like new.
