  • Engine: NOS Valve parts vs new reprodcution

I will be doing over the heads in the Avanti come spring and am wondering if the SI overhaul kits and new reproduction parts in general are a good deal or am I better to piece together NOS parts? I am thinking of changing the valves and springs and getting the seats ground in the heads. I might also change the guides. I have one cylinder which is down at 60 psi and the others are not much over 100 to 120. I would think an R3 should be around 150 psi or so. Just wondering what you guys have done. I think the harden valve seat craze of the 90's has passed and most people realize that is not necessary after all. I have 8 antique tractors and have never done that to any of them.

I've built several Stude V-8s in the last few years, I replaced the seats w/hardened ones (on my machinist's recommendation, he's a sharp guy and keeps up the latest info.)-replaced the guides too. I haven't had any problems with the engine parts from S.I.
