  • Engine: tapping noise

I posted before and used the wrong wording, It is a tapping noise that is heard when slowing down. My truck is a automatic 259 v8 with approx. 18-20k miles. The oil gage and temp gage read fine and there is no loss of power, however when the truck is cold and I first start off and at the bottom of a long hill it tends to stall, after that it seems fine. Could the tapping noise and the stall be in the ignition system?

Valves sticking until engine warms up a bit? I can't think of anything else (logical) that would make the noise you describe and cause those symptoms. I'm sure you will find an illogical problem (or problems) at some point. Old cars don't necessarily factor in logic. Good luck with your repairs and let us know if and when you find the cause of the noise. We may all learn something.
