  • Body / Glass: Window and Weatherstrip U Channels

Looking for alternatives for window U channels. Studebaker International carries some, but I thought they are a little pricey at $25 for a 5 foot piece per door. Here is a picture of what I am referring to:

I am also looking for ideas for weather strip U channel along the door sill and at the base of my tail gate opening. The one on the door sill appears to be integral to the rocker panel. My rockers are otherwise good so my plan is to cut off the top of the rusted channel and then spot weld a piece of U channel to hold the weatherstrip. I want to use a similar method at the back. Would appreciate knowing what others have done? Here are pictures of my door and tailgate areas. I have new tailgate hinges by the way. Thanks.

    On the 54K I found a number of substitutes http://www.steelerubber.com http://afproducts.automotivefairchil...-seal-products

http://www.soffseal.com/store/main.aspx as some and don't forget about Grainger and other suppliers like them.

    Good luck, Bob

        Pat,

The sources above should yield your u channel, usually available in 8' lengths in a variety of dimensions, have you considered more modern weather stripping for the door openings? I've been looking at a more rubberized almost tubing like weather strip attached using adhesives and some that attache with plastic anchors pressed through 1/8th" holes drilled into the channel area. I've always thought the original style weather strip was wanting, and I hate wind noise, not to mention moisture infiltration.
As far as the tailgate goes, I am going to use a piece of moulding scavenged off a full size Buick Roadmaster for the lower part of my Wagonaire's tailgate, the upper section is standard u channel.
