Engine: V8 Valve Stem Seals

I have some seals labeled "V8" valve seals. Does anyone know how I can tell if they are for the 232 engines or for the 259/289 V8's?

I suspect they are all the same....Try them and find out.

They have two different part numbers, 527191 and 536264. I looked in my OEM parts books and the two manufactures that I looked at both showed different numbers. This makes me think they are indeed different. I would think if they were the same the parts vendors would also reflect this.

'55 and later are umbrella style. '51 - '54 are O-ring.

I guess they are different, but use the later, improved variety.

Valve Seals

At least some if not all 232's Originally had a Metal Splash Shield Ring around the Intake Valves to protect them from excess Oil. And all had the correct "O" Rings which do not do as good a job as Umbrellas.

My '54 Had them, but the last guy who did a Valve Job installed them randomly on Intakes AND Exhaust! Doh!

I have always installed the umbrella type on all the V-8s I have rebuilt.
