  • Engine: Mystery Manifold

I tried to post this in Stove Huggers, then I realised we can't post pictures there.
Since I mention Buttercup in the post and Buttercup is a Stude, I'll put it here.

When I bought Buttercup there was a intake manifold with a WCFB bolt pattern laying in the passenger front floorboard.
I didn't pay much attention to it until Sunday. It's not a Stude. I can't figure what it is. It's not a Ford, Lincoln, Edsel, or Mercury because it's marked with even cylinder numbers on the pass. side and odd cylinder numbers on the driver's side.
The firing order cast onto it is 1-8-7-3-6-5-4-2. I haven't been able to find an older (40's, 50's, 60's or 70's) American made engine with that firing order.
Who will be the first one to come up with the correct answer.

Thanks Dick. I knew that but it slipped my mind. Since I have the pic only on my 'puter and haven't uploaded it to Photobucket.

That sounds correct, I was racking my brain trying to remember which V8 would have a WET Intake and Ports like a Caddy or Stude. and not cover the Lifter Chamber. I was thinking Olds or Buick.

Yes, it looks like an Olds bolt pattern. I've got a 6 x 2 Olds intake for the 289 in my 54 Coupe. The ports line up better than the Cadillacs. The angle of the intake ports is correct as well. The log style manifold is the one I'm using. That's because I needed to drill out the inboard holes to match and the outboard holes need some massaging to get them to clear the ports. Doable, but tricky. In fact, they're so close to the ports, I needed to use hex inset screws to keep the outside diameter of the bolt to a minimum.
I've chosen this setup because I've never had carbs sticking out of the hood. It was about time I had the pleasure of the look. I hope to have them up and running in the next few weeks. That project has been on hold for a while. Time to get it goin again.
