I am attempting to find the difference in distance from the wheel mounting surfaces of both the front and rear brake drums on a 55 K body. I have searched but see different answers. The service manual front suspension specifications refers to "tread"' giving a front tread of 56 11/16" and a rear tread of 55 11/16". Can I assume from this that the rear is 1 inch narrower than the front.

I think tread or track width refers to the distance from the center of the LH tire to the center of the RH tire . like this - http://manuals.deere.com/omview/OMW4...gif/W06218.gif

Gee Bob,
Reading that made a bunch of work for me. I had been checking clearance for a Chrysler wire wheel on the drivers side. Reading that response forced me to check the clearance on the passenger side which turned out to be 3/4" smaller. So I loosened all the body mount bolts (again) to move the body over a bit.
Sure am glad I found out before I got any farther along with the reassembly. Thank you!
Also a "thank you" to the other responders.Last edited by 5brown1; 10-06-2012, 01:37 PM.

You're welcome, Steve...but I can't help but wonder, was the work so strenuous that Moderator Clark had to edit your post to delete the salty languagethat accompanied having to loosen the body bolts and move it over?
