  • Engine: Bell housing

    Will a bellhousing from a 289 GT Hawk automatic trans fit on a 62 Champ 259 with a clutch flywheel
    & what starter would i need automatic or stick shift.This would only be temperoy to sell a good
    running 259 engine.Thank you for any help on this.

    To: Lenny R2,------- Are You saying that You want to keep the standard shift flywheel on the engine, and surround it with an automatic transmission bellhousing?

      Bell housings are quite different between Automatics and Standards, also a Studebaker bell housing has to be 'dialed-in' to the block it's attached to. You can't simply switch the bell housings from one engine to another without asking for problems.

        All of the above PLUS; Trucks use a different Clutch Housing or Converter Housing than a car, and special engine mount BRACKETS. So even IF you had stick shift parts from a Car, they still would not work in a Truck.
